Kids back to school

So my six year old started 1st grade this morning. It was very cute. I drove behind him and his best friend on their bikes. He knew right where to go to park his bike (thatnks to his friend). It was so cute. I didn't want to leave. Hope it goes good. His firat full day of school with lunch.

I took my teen to get enrolled in her class as online schooling fell through. It was simple and she still chose her classes :-). I'm at work thinking I can't wait to hear about their first days in a new school.

Trying to get homework done

I didn't have much homework this week, just to read a chapter and take a Quiz (noted in previous post). I did however have a hard time getting the reading done. Class was Wednesday and I didn't get done till late.

No time the first night but the second night I got about an hours in after reading my son a bedtime story. I finally fell asleep reading (my book is not going to look pretty is I keep falling asleep on it). The next night I was on a Team retreat, I tried to read when I got home but was bombarded with kids wanting attention. I then had to re-shower and go out with the kids shopping. Then came home changed and went to my Aunts Birthday Party with my mother. No time that night. Saturday was working till 3:30 to make up from Wednesday and then took my son to The Smurfs because he did his laundry. We had fun and got some stuff for our new Kitten at the pet store. We got home late and then I tried to rest but got in an argument with my teanager who now wanted me to go out again to another movie. Yeah no way.... too tired. I did go to the grocery store and my daughter left to the movie on her own. I had to wait till 12 to pick her up and watched Dexter while waiting because I was to tired to read. Next day is family day and we spent the day at gateway. We ate lunch at Happy Sumo and had Dragon Scales, Miso Soup, Sushi and Teriyaki Chicken. It was great except for the 2 times we spilled. Good thing we were on the patio. We went to Sur La Tab and got free coffee from the express machine demonstration and my son played in the fountain while I read my Assignment. Kris went shopping on her own. We left around 7 after grabbing the next book in her series and went home. Kris started an argument on the way home and I tried to let it go. I took my quiz then. Then of course the teenager didn't let it go and now I am a bad guy and everyone hates me. I was reasured I was not loved.

Is this normal behaviour for 14 going on 15? Or do I really suck at everything because I won't give my teenager everything she wants right when she wants it. Oh well I am used to being hated.

First Quiz

So I took my ffirst Quiz for my Anthropology class. I was able to take it online. I learned a few things.
1. Don't read half the Chapter then wait 5 days read the rest and take the quiz. You will forget the first half.
2. Highlight Names and what they are known for and strange words you come across. They usually show up in the Quiz.
3. The Quiz gives me 20 minutes.
4. I need to take the quiz twices before I hit sumit or it will record just the 1 score (We are able to take it twice and submit the best score).
5. I am pretty lucky as I got 80% or 8/10 when I had forgotton the first half of the chapter by the time I took the Quiz.

I also learned my class is on Wednesday and Friday, not Monday and Wednesday. Lesson learned and 1 class missed (hope it wasn't important).
I really think I am going to like Anthropolgy and Archeology since I have had a major obsession with all things related to it since I was little.
I am not sure when my obsession started, but I think it may have been at a class trip to the museum in an Egyptian Exibit. I can picture it to this day. I think it was King Tut's Exibit when it was on tour. Ahh I wish my brain worked better and I could remember everything always.

Pottery Class

So I was late to class as the parking downtown sucks and I will have to pay for parking unless I can find an open meter... which is hopeless; however at least 10 people were late. It was awesome though. The professor gave us a chunk of clay to play with and form when we got there so we would not get bored while going over the syllabus and rules. We toured the Studio and watched her wedge the clay and throw a Vase on the wheel. It was fun. I can't wait to get into it. I made a really cool arch with an open middle while sitting listening. She thought it was cool and said to keep it and put it in the fireing room. Our tuition covers a 25 lb bag of clay and all the fireing and glazes we want. Each addition clay bag is only $10 bucks for 25 lbs. That is soooooo cheap. I bought a tool kit from her for $13 bucks. Looks like this is going to be a cheap class. If I am good at it I may continue to more advanced classes. Hmmm.... we will see.

Pottery 1600

Ok so it's 34 minutes till class and I think I am really nervous. What is wrong with me I am too old to get the jitters on the first day. I can't wait till I am broken in again!

First Day

I was/am so nervous... or excited? It's hard to tell the difference. Todays the First day of school. The parking is actually good.

Crap! I forgot to get a parking pass.... I hope I don't get a ticket.

Crap, Crap! I forgot paper and pen/pencil. I am glad I took my Coworker/fellow piers advice and left early. The book store was really crowded but they had like 10 registers so I got out fast and was on my way to class with 10 minutes to spare. I sat in the back next to a nice girl who I learned was named Missy. Lucky for me I brought my glasses (but now can't find them). The class was going over the Syllabus and I think I am really going to like this class, even though the teacher said it will be a dry class. I love this stuff so I guess dry is my thing. The teacher seems extremely competant and will not accept late work as you have a week to do them and it really isn't hard as it is only 2 pages and submitted online papers and quizes (my kind of class). I think she has noted about 10 times in the Syllabus you get a 0 on late work because she does not accept late work, and she mentioned it a lot too. :)

After class I went to the student court and grabbed a sheet for a parking permit, however I did not have time to go get my registration from the car and come back and buy the pass. I found someone to tell me My pottery class is in the Salt Lake Art Center downtown. I wonder if I will get lost later???

I get back to my car and luckily they were to busy to notice me and give me a ticket. I will get a pass later. I am melting in the car and on my way back to work. I really should not have worn all black.

So... So far it is all good. I can't wait till 5:30 and I am off to my next class! Wish me luck!

Return To College

My name is Sunshine. I am a single Parent with 2 kids who works full time. I love to learn and loved college but when I got pregnant with Each kid I put my education on hold to be there for them. My Youngest son is 6 now and going into 1st grade. Since he will be in school full time I wanted to return to College also to study with him and my 14 year old daughter. It is just part time but every bit counts.

I decided to ease in with one fun class and one interesting hard class.
I picked Pottery and Intro to Archeology

We will see how it goes.
